Lack of right treatment at right time, is one of the reasons of depletion of cow population in our country. Many a times, it is seen that, untimely death of a large no. of cows are due to lack of knowledge about the typical diseases and treatment procedure. In ancient times, people knew about simple but effective methods of treatment of diseased cattle. Ancient people were utilizing their traditional knowledge for treatment of cows, which they learned from their forefathers. These traditional treatment methods were mostly less costly or without any cost but very effective. In modern times people have discarded those methods and because which the cow population was impacted. As a matter of fact the traditional method of treatment is in the verge of extinction.
The Government at various places appoints animal doctors but they are not reachable when their help is required for treatment of diseased cattle. Moreover, many a times poor and simple village folks can’t purchase the medicine prescribed by them. Therefore, to treat the cattle diseases simple native herbs or easily available some simple medicines should be used for treatment. In present times due to lack of close connect with the cows, we are not aware about their health conditions, which was very well understood in the ancient times. Now cow rearing is only done in a commercial basis and because of that we are not very much interested to treat the diseased cows rather want to do away with them. As a matter of fact, due to lack of proper care, negligence and love, cattle become diseased and treatment is required. Most of the time it is seen that due to lack of proper watch and ward, cows are seen to move around the streets in very unhealthy environment. While loitering around, they tend to swallow polythene bags, clothe pieces and other poisonous food for which sometimes they become seriously ill. During this time dedicated and sincere animal doctors having service mentality required to provide immediate and effective treatment.
Moreover, while treating cattle one must consider their age, physical strength and category of diseases for carefully administering appropriate combination of medicines in right proportions for effective treatment.
Before administering medicines, the diagnosis of disease must be carefully done otherwise appropriate and good medicines may not fruitful in treatment. Diagnosis should be done after examining the symptoms properly and the doses of medicine should be decided by considering the strength and age of the cows. There is shortage of good animal doctors in Odisha, who can diagnose the cattle diseases by evaluating the symptoms of the diseases. With appropriate training, we can create dedicated and sincere animal doctors along with special knowledge and improved skill based animal hospital for cattle. It is now a big challenge to take care of the diseased cattle by providing them appropriate food and providing treatment to them with modern instruments and equipment in an appropriate environment.
